The causes of thrush (or a yeast infection) are vast and varied but one of the most common causes are medicines used in everyday life. Antibiotics are one of the biggest causes because of their effectiveness to treat illness. With such widespread use, antibiotics work to kill off harmful bacteria in the body. The downside to this is the fact that they also kill off a number of the good bacteria along the way.
When the body experiences a low ‘good’ bacteria count, the bad bacteria can often replenish faster and this will cause an imbalance to happen and the bacteria that causes thrush can multiply. You can read more about what causes thrush here.
Steroids are another widely used medication that can cause the thrush. They are now used more often to treat a wide variety of illnesses and the ironic part is that the medication that is used to treat one illness will then go on to create another one for the person being treated.
If you are suffering from thrush because of medication then there is normally nothing to be worried about. Your body is already in a weekend state and run down and this gives the yeast a chance to take over. If you catch the symptoms of thrush early you will be able to prevent it from getting any worse and causing any further complications.
