Although virginal thrush is common and well known amongst women, after all, over 75% of us will suffer from it at some stage of our lives, oral thrush is less well known.  Oral thrush is also known as oral yeast infections or oral candida.  I expect that you have arrived here because you are looking for more information about it or want to know if you have the symptoms of oral thrush.

There are actually four kinds of oral thrush or oral yeast infections.  The first kind is known in the medial profession as Moniliasis and it can be identified by a white or yellow coating of the tongue or entire mouth.  If you were to wipe away the mucus, the tongue underneath is an angry red colour which will be very sore.

Second type of oral thrush is medically known as Erythematous.  This is characterized by the red peeling skin on the tongue.  Third is referred to as Angular Cheilitis and can be recognised by the angry red cracks in the corners of their mouth.  Finally, if you were diagnosed with Hyperplastic where the extra tissue in the mouth becomes discoloured – this type of oral thrush needs to be addressed as if it’s left untreated it can spread to other organs in the body.

The symptoms of oral thrush will vary from person to person, but some of the most common symptoms of oral thrush are:

  • Fatigue – almost to the point of feeling lazy with no good reason.
  • Joint pain that can become flu like.
  • Depression.
  • Digestive problems.
  • Cravings for alcohol, bread or anything with a high yeast content.

Again, it should be stressed that some people might suffer with several symptoms of oral thrush whilst others will show very few signs of an oral yeast infection.
