What Is A Yeast Infection?

Although yeast is present in everyone as normal helpful cells, it’s these cells that can multiply when your good bacteria isn’t working properly.  This is when it turns into a yeast infection.

When you think about a yeast infection you normally associate it with women having a virginal yeast infection, although both men and women can have a yeast infection in their mouths, skin, folds in their skin and even in the breasts.

It’s commonly thought that over 75% of women will have at least one yeast infection in their lifetime with over half of them having it more than once.  Some women are more prone to it than others and can suffer on a regular basis.

One thing to keep in mind is the fact that having a yeast infection (or thrush as it is also known as) isn’t something to be embarrassed of. It doesn’t mean that you are a dirty person nor does it mean that you have caught something horrible. Never be too embarrassed to seek help if you are suffering from it – it’s nothing that the medical profession haven’t seen before!
